Throwback Thursday: Gypsy Design Studio

Since I started this bikini biz in November 2009, CurleeBikini has setup shop and fully lived in FOUR different Eco Design Studios… AND we are now officially moving into a temporary fifth location!!!

The Topanga Canyon Airstream, where it all began…

Among my time there, the airstream and it’s deck got a facelift… as if this canyon hideaway wasn’t already beautiful enough…

What a wild journey it has been… growing and evolving among various people, places, and spaces. Through all of it I have kept CurleeBikini strong and thriving… my dreams of a clothing line pre-FIDM always involved a label that was primarily sold online, allowing for myself, as the designer and biz owner, to remain as free and mobile as possible. And so… here I am in a version of this dream!

Our second studio, in the Silverlake garage of a very dear friend… Albeit temporary, this location served as the perfect platform to shift from a Westside designer’s life to an Eastside designer’s life.

The beautiful, little Eagle Rock bungalow we eventually settled in. The living room doubled as my studio, but what more does a girl need than her creativity and the joy of a few VIBRANT California fruit trees!

As I pack up studio number four and prepare to spend the next six months in a temporary space… I’m enjoying a little trip down CurleeBikini’s memory lane.

Cut to the Las Vegas spot that we are currently packing up: This joyful, wide open house gave us (me & my beau) a chance to spread out and grow up a little. The perfect, creative retreat from our long, hard days working on the strip…

We even have a swimming pool in our backyard here, plus the ever meaningful Meyer Lemon tree… From Eagle Rock to Las Vegas the Meyer Lemon has definitely become a household tradition!

Every time I’ve moved… the business and the creativity have only flourished, becoming more grounded and stronger. We are moving towards BIG things (especially now)… yet we will always remain FREE! Stay tuned to be introduced to the spaces and places that lie ahead of us (myself and CurleeBikini)!

Wanderlust Wednesday: The Five Elements Healing and Wellness Retreat

Straight from the likes of TBT’s Brook Hahn (TBT = the Beautiful Think, featured this past #MavenMonday)…

Her latest blog post has me lusting after this gorgeous Balinese retreat!!!

Check out what she has to say about it here…

Note, how beautifully The Five Elements Healing and Wellness Retreat pairs with CurleeBikini Swimwear! wink. wink.

Trashy Tuesday: Blue Water Task Force Annual Report

“Just in time for summer, Surfrider Foundation and Emergen-C ® are releasing the 2012 Blue Water Task Force Annual Report. This report outlines water quality results from Surfrider Foundation’s volunteer-run labs located across the country. Similar to last year, 70% of the tests came back with low bacteria counts, while 18% of the tests failed to meet the national water quality standards set by the EPA. The majority of samples that yielded high bacteria counts came from testing locations where freshwater sources meet up with the beach. The best news from the report is that the program experienced great growth in 2012. More Chapters are testing more beaches and using the BWTF website to share their data to identify and solve water pollution problems in their local communities.”

Maven Monday: the Beautiful Think

I’m so excited to announce that CurleeBikini is now available for sale at the Beautiful Think

What a wonderful name for an online boutique, right? I heard about this new website via the Ethical Fashion Forum… I contacted the lady who started it all, immediately after reading about her new venture and exploring the beginnings of this modern, specially curated online boutique.

Founded by the passionate and gorgeous Brooke Hahn; at the Beautiful Think…

you can source beautiful, high quality garments that are made in an environmentally and socially responsible way. You can shop by garment type, philosophy or designer, with each product featuring a nifty eco/ethical checklist so you know exactly what it stands for.

Here, you can build a wardrobe of quality based on style and sustainability, that you will love wearing again and again and again…

Wear your values beautifully.”

And of course, being that it is Maven Monday… I have discovered a few new favorite pieces direct from the likes of the Beautiful Think.

Not only a seller, they might soon find me as a buyer too!!!

Ever since the new year, I’ve been aiming to do enough yoga; improve my practice in such a way that I do this with ease. And I do this well. Yet… There’s so much to do in a day, much more in a week, and so on. Someday. Someday before too long… I promise myself this!

places to practice… everywhere…

As you allow stillness to permeate your life, you more and more recognize the movement towards softness, and you grow more and more sensitive. The breath naturally becomes softer and softer as the mind quiets—it does this, not you. It is a natural movement of Nature, requiring no human intervention. You just observe—be an open space, awareness—ready for whatever arises, like the empty cup. Your mind may wander. Let it. There is nothing to do… just be and let whatever happens occur on its own.
